.325 vs 3/8 chain in hardwood

When you’re out in the cold with your chainsaw, staring down that hardwood, it can feel like it knows just how to test you. Between .325 and 3/8 chains, which one do you think performs best in winter? I’m eager to hear your thoughts on wear, kickback, and speed based on your own experiences!

I've been using winter oak for years, and I always go back to 3/8. It grips better in frozen wood and maintains speed. While .325 is smoother, it slows down when things get icy.

I started with .325 because it felt easier to handle in the cold and less likely to snag with gloves. But after trying 3/8, I found it cuts quicker and saves me from freezing my hands between cuts.

Spending winters cutting hardwood showed me that frozen wood doesn't care about comfort. .325 is gentler with less kickback, but 3/8 cuts through icy grain much faster. When it’s ten degrees outside, I prefer speed over smoothness.
