Anyone running longer than 24" bar on a CS-590?

Got an Echo CS-590 Timberwolf that’s been rock solid for firewood, but now I’ve got a couple downed trees that I’d like to mill. The 24" bar I’ve been running is just a hair too short. So here’s the real question: has anyone here pushed the 590 with a 28" bar (or even longer)? I’ve heard mixed things... some say it’ll pull it if you’re patient, others act like you’ll bog down every cut. Not looking to buy a whole new saw for a side project, just curious if anyone’s actually done it and what brand bar/chain setup you ran.

I ran a 28" Oregon bar with a full skip chain on my CS-590 for a few small milling jobs and it handled okay as long as I kept the RPMs up and didn’t rush the cut. It’s not fast, but it’ll get through pine and softer hardwoods. What kind of wood are you planning to mill?

You could probably get away with it for a project. Just know the saw's limitations for power and oiling, take it slow, and if you are constantly stalling against the clutch, just know you are slowly killing the saw.

28" bar on a CS-590 for occasional milling can work if you are patient and use a good skip-tooth ripping chain, but it's operating at the absolute limit of the saw's capability. Good luck with your project!
