Holiday storm cleanup with neighbors

After a holiday storm, you find yourself outside, surrounded by fallen branches and mud, with your gear working overtime. Maybe you noticed a neighbor struggling and decided to lend a hand to tackle the mess together. Have you ever helped a neighbor with storm cleanup during the holidays? How did that experience turn out for you?
 
During one holiday storm, we lost power, and branches went everywhere. I got my stuff and helped my neighbor clear his drive. We ended up drinking coffee and telling stories after.
 
A few winters ago, a big wind left my place covered in branches. My neighbor was struggling with his own mess, so I took my saw over. We worked together, cleared both yards, and joked about how cleaning up became a holiday tradition.
 
I don't think i have around the holidays but quite a few times other times of the year when storms are more prevalent. I did leave town on Christmas eve years ago to work in Arkansas on an ice storm for a couple of weeks
 
Absolutely love hearing about this, neighbors coming together after a storm. Makes the cleanup feel a bit easier and the stories better.
 
As far as storm cleanup stories go I have one that sticks with me as the single most kindest response from a homeowner that we helped out during storm cleanup. I will never forget this lady in Coral Gables. Miami Florida. Before emerging out of the Gulf as a devastating hurricane katrina passed over key west and south, Florida and caused quite a bit of damage there also. We were working down the street in a very posh neighborhood of multi-million dollar mansions and had passed a house that was gigantic and probably in the range of $10 million. The large driveway and in front of the house had about 8 or 9 very expensive cars parked in it. We were about a 1/2 a block away when I noticed a well-dressed lady, walking down the street towards us. She had a big pitcher of icy lemonade and a handful of Dixie cups. As the heat was almost unbearable and we had been there for 2 weeks, that ice cold lemonade was incredibly refreshing and she had just walked down the street to thank us for all our efforts. She explained that they had a backup generator and they had power and a lot of their family and friends were staying with them. It struck me that here was a lady with more money than most of us would make in multiple lifetimes and was playing host to a bunch of family members, but still took the time to walk down and thank a bunch of grubby tree workers for our efforts in helping restore power even though she herself didn't have that issue.

What a great story. It's incredible how a small act of kindness can really change things, especially when you're going through a rough time at work. Thanks for sharing that.
