is this 2100 a project or parts donor?

Dragged home a Husqvarna 2100 CD thinking it'd just be a donor. No starter rope, no top plastics, no clutch... figured it was dead weight. Swapped a bar/chain for it anyway since 2100 parts are getting scarce. Got a rope on it and it surprised me: spark is solid, compression feels strong. Problem is, the spark plug threads are stripped out... looks like someone had an insert in there at one point, and now it's gone. I'm left with a 16mm hole. So here's the dilemma: is it worth tracking down a fix (insert/heli-coil/etc.), or do I accept it's still just a parts carcass? Anyone here actually save a 2100 from this kind of mess?

I had the same issue before, and honestly, the repair isn't as hard as it looks. The process of using a Heli Coil kit for a spark plug is pretty straightforward.
The key is to be extremely careful and prevent any metal shavings from getting into the cylinder. You can do this by stuffing a shop rag into the hole or using a vacuum hose while you're tapping the threads.
The kits come with everything you need, and the entire process should only take about 30 minutes. It's a small price to pay to get a legendary saw running again
 
If you think it has already had a heli-coil kit in it the new one
should screw straight in. They are a breeze to do I just bring the piston
up to top dead centre so none of the swarf can get down into the crank case.
When finished I blow it out with my compressor and finish it off with gasoline.
 
If his hole is already 16mm I don’t think a standard helicoil will work
