I spent 12 years as a Mfg. Engineer for Stihl in Virginia Beach.
In 95 I was offered the Engineering Mgr. position at McCulloch by Jonathan Miller who owned Shop-Vac & had just purchased McCulloch.
That move was the biggest mistake of my career! Moving from Stihl to McCulloch was like going from an Aerospace company to a buggy whip manufacturer.
At that time McCulloch was having a problem with quality & rather than upgrade & improve the operation, Mr. Miller's solution was to fire the plant Manage & shuffle people around. I ended up as Plant Manager for almost 2 years. Any attempt I made to invest in upgrades was denied, and things continued downhill. My main job, the last year, was laying off most of the workforce, & in 1997, I too was cut.
