Back in the days when I spent long hours cutting, my first priority was to clean up the gear before I treated myself to a cold drink. Some people dive right into relaxation, while others take a moment to celebrate their hard work.

What about you? What’s the first thing you do after a long day of cutting?

Yes if you are hot and dry I treat myself to a drink as my saws are all cleaned when
I get home. Like Vashon I have a big compressor in my workshop and all my saws
are blown out where I can get at. And every season they get a really good make
over. I have had saws brought to me to try and fix that have been killed due to
lack of 5 or 10 minutes to clean them up. Had a Stihl brought to me which had
not done a lot of work but never maintained. The fins were completely blocked
with chain oil and saw dust and probably the worst maintained saw I have ever seen.
And told the people to come pick it up and take it away. They didn't believe me
and took it to a Stihl shop and got the same answer there.
Way I look at it do them after every use and it is easy but leave them and think
to yourself I will do it tomorrow the job gets bigger .

Great to see a focus on maintenance. I really appreciate you sharing your practical and helpful experiences.
