I keep seeing people casually drop 30cc saw in conversations like it’s some kind of universal benchmark, yunno “grab a good 30cc,” “you’ll outgrow a 30cc quick” but what exactly are we all referring to here? Is 30cc just shorthand for a certain class of light duty saws, or is there a particular model everyone someone knows that I dont, I'm pretty new to this anyway

I am new too.

30cc vs 50cc vs 70cc vs 90cc is most common classification. There are many below, above and inbetween.

20cc more = more power

A 30cc saw is usually for pros just starting out or homeowners who want something nice. It's light and great for trimming branches and cutting down small trees. Just don't expect it to power through tough wood or handle large bars.

Cubic Centimeters. It's engine displacement. For every 5cc you can expect up to a 30% power increase. A 60cc saw has twice the displacement as a 30cc, but it'll have more than twice the power and cutting capacity.
