What have you done on the day of if your turkey was still solid

We kept it in the sink with running cool water before putting it into the oven. Turned out alright, but don't want a repeat of that Thanksgiving, the chaos almost wrecked the whole day.

Had that happen before! The turkey was still frozen when I woke up. I had to cut it into smaller parts and roast them separately. It wasn’t the most elegant look, but it cooked through quicker and saved dinner.

Oh man, I totally get that! I did the exact same thing once, kept it in cold water most of the morning then baked it. It turned out okay, but talk about stressful!

It looks like we’ve all had some memorable turkey moments! I’m curious has anyone here ever tried spatchcocking or smoking a bird when it was still half frozen? I’m just thinking if that’s a useful trick to remember for the future.

I smoke all my turkeys and honestly all the meats of any kind that I cook. I can tell you that it would be a bad idea to run the cook on even a partially frozen bird. Do whatever you have to do to get it defrosted before the cook if you want good results.

That makes a lot of sense defrosting is definitely the golden rule when it comes to smoking. Appreciate the tip.

I deep fried one one time that was not quite unthawed. I was pretty careful carving it up and sure enough some wasn't cooked. But thankfully enough was to feed everybody.

Wow, that was a close one! At least you were able to get everyone fed in the end!
