When the temps really plummet you might find that your carbureted engine is idling a bit rough or hesitating when you take your foot off the throttle. You might adjust some screws, tweak the fuel mix, or simply let it warm up a little longer. How do you fine-tune your carb for those frigid starts?

Since cold air is so much denser, you're almost running lean. Before you start pulling the carb apart, try turning your idle mixture screws outby about 1/8 to 1/4 turn
that will add just enough extra fuel to smooth out the shiver in the idle without messing up your tune once the engine finally gets up to temp

On most saws there is a door from the cylinder to carb area which lets a bit of warm air into cab box. Helps in vey cold weather but would not help with starting.
High octane fuel burns at a lower temperature so that should help.
