Are chainsaw chaps really worth it?

I've come across a lot of differing views on chainsaw chaps. Some folks swear by them, saying they're essential for safety, while others find them bulky and think they're not needed for quick tasks. What about you? Do you put them on every time you work, or just for specific jobs?

For me, chaps are a must. Kevlar fibers can stop a chain right away. Even the smallest cuts can be risky.

Chaps or chainsaw pants are a must for all situations.
Just make sure that the protective padding goes all the way around the leg. I’ve seen situations where the chain grabbed the front of the chap or pant and spun it around to the unprotected part.

for that matter but yes all the time and will get like putting a seatbelt on
in a car you will do it by habit.

Absolutely once you get into the groove that excuse of 'just a quick task' disappears pretty quickly. And let’s be honest safety gear is only effective when you actually put it on

Couldn’t agree more. Once you get into the swing of things it feels strange to go without your gear. It only took one close call for me to see that protective gear is way more affordable than fixing up my body.

I have a cut knee that says you WILL wear them.
Check the cost of chaps compared to the emergency room.
No brainer.

kickbackking here is a view I can give you. The other day I was cutting firewood and although
the saw was not much more than an idle I brushed my chaps with my chainsaw and pulled some
off that clogger fibre out and stalled the chain if I had not had them on I would have been
applying some sticky plasters I think.

My father cut through a pair of chaps and had a scratch across his thigh. Without those I bet that would have been a fatal mistake.

I wear chaps when I cut with my larger saws, but haven’t been wearing them when using my small Milwaukee 8” 18v saw. That’s going to change because i’ve found that it has some kickback for a small saw and I tend to cut overhead branches with it where the saw can swing down.

Small saw can do as much damage as a big saw.
