Can my Husky 465 Rancher work with a 36” Oregon VersaCut 236snd025 bar?

Currently using a 22" bar but want to size up for particular tasks. How does this swap effect the Husqvarna 460 Rancher chain size and are there suggestions for ensuring the adapter fits correctly?

The 465 uses a D009 mount.
Stihl uses a D025 mount.
So in your case a Husqvarna can't use the bar you listed.
A 36" bar is available with the D009 mount but I don't think a 465 is enough saw for that length of bar.
It's a 64 cc saw. Rule of thumb is 3 cc per inch of bar. Now that's not a hard rule as a 36" bar would require a 108 cc saw and there's a lot of guys running them on saws in the 70-90 cc range. Running a 36" bar on 64 cc gives you 1.77 cc per inch. Can it do it? Sure. Will it do it well? Probably not.
Max I would run on a 64 cc would be a 28" bar.

When upgrading the bar, make sure the chain pitch and gauge match, you'll likely need a longer chain for a bigger bar, you can also verify the adapter fits your bar's mounting system.

Appreciate the breakdown! Helps put things into perspective. Will keep it within the recommended range and also check the chain pitch and gauge before swapping to avoid any headaches down the road.

The Husky 460 Rancher isn't really ideal for a 36" bar. @Cord_Nipper did so well explaining. If you really need a 36", you need a 90cc saw like a 395XP or 572XP.

Yeah, that 592XP is a beast of a saw for sure. Thanks for the recommendation. Surely something to dream about if the wallet can stretch that far for a big bar setup.

As the others guys have stated the 465 was not made for nor do I think it would handle a 36" bar, the 22" is a good bar for that saw
I had seen them "when they were still made" on the shelves with a 22" bar, always wondered if the would be a strain for that saw since the rancher line is mid-grade like the stihl farm ranch line
Then a close friend purchased one and I had the chance to use the crap out of it "he had a shoulder injury" needing some downed trees cut up with a 22" bar and it did just fine, even thought it would handle a 24" bar for short durations.
He had purchased a 24" bar and chain for it when he purchased the saw and we did not install it that day, nor do I know if he ever did change out the bar.

I don’t recall Husqvarna ever offering a 22” bar, do you mean a 20” or 24” bar?

In my .325 pitch saws 50cc or so and under like my 543XP, the 353, 550XP and the Wife’s 445, those all use K095 mount bars, that are available in 13, 16, 18, and 20”, there may be a 24” .325/.050 available, but I wouldn’t use one of those on my.325 pitch saws

My 460 Rancher is an odd duck, using a K095 small mount in a 3/8” pitch, which I know has a K095 3/8” .050 24” bar available, but that is the longest factory K095 bar that I am aware of. Yeah I can use the 24” 3/8 chain on my other 3/8” pitch saws, but I mistakenly assumed that the 460 Rancher was a D009 Large husky mount, I wouldn’t have bought it if I properly researched it and realized that it was an odd duck 3/8 K095

My 266XP, 562XP, 372XP and 372XPW are all D009 3/8 .050 with 24 and 28” bars

My “Team .404”, 390XP, 395XP(X2) and 3120XP are all D009 .404/.063 with bars in 36”(x2), 44”, 60” and 72”, those bars are Husqvarna Branded, built by GB in Australia. The 50” would have been a great fit for my 48” Granberg ( Not to be confused with GB, Different Companies) Alaskan mill, it would have come really close to allowing the full capacity of the 48” mill, the 44” falls way short, but so far has always been adequate for my needs. The 60” would allow me to use the full capacity of the 48” mill, but is surprising how much heavier, especially in nose heavy balance it is compared to the 44”.

I also have handle and rail sets to rebuild either the 36” or 48” Granberg mills into 60” or 72” mills, but so far, I haven’t needed that much capacity yet

When I realized that the 50” Husky bar by GB, would be a worthwhile addition, it had become NOLA. I can, or at least could the last time I checked, order a GB branded bar, out of Australia, but the price hasn’t been cost effective, for the amount that I would need it, so I still have that “Hole” in my collection

It is possible, that there is an aftermarket 22” bar available, but I am not aware of any, and that wouldn’t be a common off the shelf chain length, that you would likely have to have a shop custom spin chains for, or possibly order online

I don’t know the Stihl line that well, but I have read of some Stihl guys with what would be an oddball size for me, 25” bars, so anything is possible, but I’m not aware of any Factory Husky 22” bars

Yes sir, it was a 22" and said Husqvarna on it I am pretty sure he purchased it at Tractor Supply or could have been lowes, he bought one husky at TS and one at Lowes. I asked him have you lost your mind all your trimmers, blowers, etc are Stihl. 😀
I asked him what length it was since it looked a little longer than my 362 with 20" bar "I took it just encase" and he said 22" are you jealous?

You're absolutely right, I was just measuring the usable part sticking out, which came to about 22 inches. I took it off and measured the whole thing from end to end, and it's a 24-inch bar. Thanks for keeping me honest, I'm learning a lot here.

You were measuring it right the first time, the bar length is measured from the case of the saw to the bar end, not counting the mounting portion behind the clutch cover.
So it seems that you did measure it correctly originally, and may actually have a 22” bar. That is interesting as I can”t recall ever seeing a 22” bar, or even a listing or part number, for a Husqvarna branded 22” bar, nor any chains packaged for a 22” bar. One could always have a saw shop spin you up some 22” chains in whatever chain type you prefer, but I don’t recall ever seeing any 22” chains, packaged and on the shelf

Stranger things have happened, you’ve probably never met my Wife, she would likely have you scratching your head, over several things, but I Love Her anyway 😉

Ha! Fair point. Measuring from the case does put me right back at 22 inches, so now I'm wondering if it was an aftermarket oddball or something Husky quietly put out for retail stores. I might swing by Tractor Supply and see if they ever stocked anything labeled 22 just out of curiosity. Never thought chain length alone would be enough to send me down a rabbit hole. You're not wrong about stranger things. Between my bar and your Wife, the mystery deepens.
