Gear you never loan out

You’ve been through it and learned that some tools come back broken, dull, or just plain missing. Everyone has that one piece of gear they hold onto tightly. What’s the item you refuse to lend out, and what’s the reason? We’re all ears and won’t judge.

Pretty much all my tools go out with me as I trust no one to care for them.

Totally get that. Tools are just too valuable or meaningful to loan out!

Yes owner goes with the tools as people never treat them the same way as you do.
Lend spanners and come back with some missing and there is no way I
lend my saws.

Hard to argue with that. Tools only get the care they need when the owner's the one using them.

It was around 1980 I lent a fellow worker my Homelite chainsaw 150 w/16" bar he brought it back and then I went to use it and it cut but not straight it cut in a radius in the log So I won't lend out anything with a motor. #2 I loaned my electric jigsaw to next door neighbor and when I went to use it a couple months later it didn't work anymore.

I completely understand your frustration, it’s really tough when things don’t come back in the same condition. I just need to take out that last line, but I totally get why you mentioned it.

I might lend out a 2ft chunk of railroad iron. If I get it back, I'm reasonably sure it will be undamaged. If I don't, I have several more.
50 years ago, my Dad taught me this. Avoid borrowing anything. If you do, it's likely to break and you have to fix it. If you loan anything out, expect it to come back broken. Ive borrowed and loaned and he is frequently proven right. On loaning, it depends who it is anymore. A couple of friends are like brothers to me. Whatever happens will get worked out.

As many have said, while I don’t lend out my tools, I will always lend myself out to help my neighbors.

Yeah, we’re more than happy to lend ourselves, just not our tools.
