Husqvarna 136 won't idle

My old Husqvarna 136 barely gets used, but I need it. It starts, runs a few seconds, then dies. Fuel line fixed, carb rebuilt, yet it still won't idle. I see air bubbles in the line, maybe a vent issue?anyone know a safe way to test or fix this?

It sounds like you might have a clogged tank vent. Try loosening the fuel cap a bit before starting it up. If it runs for a longer time afterward, you should consider cleaning or replacing the vent.

If the engine won't idle, see if the idle mixture screw was screwed in too tight when the carb was rebuilt.

If you have a vacuum tester like a mityvac, fish the fuel line out of
the tank take the filter off and plug the vacuum tester straight in.
Make sure it,s holding around 10pd and if so that eliminates
any leakage there.

And while you have the fuel and filter out, pull the hose off the carb and plug in the vacuum tester. It should NOT hold vacuum

To test it safely.. fill the tank then put the saw on its side with the gas cap facing up.
Loosen the cap just a hair, enough to let it breathe but not so much that gas spills.
If it runs and idles fine that way, you know your vent is the issue.
If that's the case, try a new vent grommet first, they're cheap and a common failure point.
If that doesn't fix it, you might be looking at a bad tank, but let's hope it's not that.
