Hi all, I will post a photo when I get a chance, but have cleaned and revived my late father's 034 AV Super. It didn't have a hard life -- annual firewood production for the house each fall, for which there were 1 or 2 other saws (including my smaller Husqvarna) on work days. But it fell into disuse when his health failed, and just sat for the past 10 years.
I cleaned it up (it had been put away pretty dirty), replaced the rotted out fuel line and plug, and cleaned out the carb. The well-worn 16" bar had too much side-to-side chain play for my tastes, so I put on a new 18" Oregon bar and chain that was on sale. After a little coaxing and adjusting, it runs and cuts well, with strong chain brake action, and good chain oiling.
One thing needs fixing though: if I let it idle for a while while arranging the next cut, when I gun it to start cutting again there's LOTS of extra blue smoke for a few seconds. The only discussion I've found (I forget where) said that the oil seals were probably worn, resulting in bar oil getting where it doesn't belong. I'd love any experience or direction here. I have found the service manual but it's more about disassembly/assembly but less about diagnosis! Thanks!
