Stihl MS 271 chainsaw

It's the weekend, so it means it's about time I unbox my brand new Stihl MS 271 which arrived last Monday LOL. Unfortunately, I couldn't get the clutch cover to close completely. The brake band seems like it's too tight or misaligned. Is it possible that the chain brake was engaged when I removed the cover? How can I reset this?

I had a Dereal before and I knew where to get parts. I don't know what's with this new chainsaw.

You have just experienced the official Stihl owner's rite of passage. I think almost everyone does this the first time they take the cover off. You just need to pop the brake mechanism on the cover itself back toward the handle with a screwdriver or your scwrench until the band opens up. What bar length did you end up getting with it?

How did you manage to buy a new Stihl saw. Without getting instructions from your dealer? I’ve never bought a Stihl without pretty comprehensive instruction from the authorized seller.

Congratulations on your new Stihl! Take it easy on the saw for the first 3-4 tanks of fuel, and always warm it up before putting it under load. It will be a joy to own. My MS362CM is around 10 years old and cuts like crazy.

My nephew bought a new MS271 and used it once. He needed some ready cash, so I got it for 400. Trouble is, whenever I decide to take it out and use it, my grand old 029 Super leaps into my hands and I can't figure out how that happens. So, I use the 029 Super instead.

I love my old 029 Super, the amount of downed trees, limbs, etc I cut with that saw is massive and can't remember all of it.
I did retire it after a very detailed cleaning and installing new OEM old stock clutch cover and bar.
