What chainsaw projects are you planning to tackle this winter?

Since things are a bit slower now, you might have some projects in mind, or even be thinking ahead to early 2026.

This is the place to share what you're working on with your chainsaw this winter, and any ideas you have for next year.

 

[Cuts&Circuits]

I've finally got a bit of extra time, so I'm planning to clear away some storm-damaged branches around the place. Nothing too serious, just things I've been putting off. Also starting to sketch out a few firewood projects for early 2026 while things are nice and quiet.

Now that the holiday rush is behind me, I'm finally getting to that pile of logs that's been glaring at me since fall. I plan to cut everything up, properly sharpen the chain, and maybe even try a small milling project if the weather plays nice. I'm already thinking about what I want to take on in early 2026.

With work slowing down, I'm spending the winter fine-tuning my saws and finishing up a small trail-clearing job behind the house. It's one of those tasks I promised I'd tackle “eventually,” and it seems that “eventually” is now. Hoping to kick off next year with everything running smoothly.

Well, I've got a 20ft x 28" oak log straight as an arrow out back i want to mill 14" x 4" beams out of. Been holding off thinking about how to wrestle 600 lb pieces of wood without a picker truck. I've got other winter projects to do till spring and then garden to get in and start in on about 8 cord firewood.

Sounds like everyone’s winter plans are coming together perfectly! From those long-neglected log piles finally getting some attention, to the trail cleanup that’s been on hold for ages, and let’s not forget that massive oak log that feels like a full-body workout all by itself. It’s a great mix of catching up and getting ready for 2026.
