Your most painful accidental slip-up

A friend of mine accidentally plugged the wrong charger into an old battery pack, and just like that, we had a little magic smoke show. Lesson learned, and it wasn’t a cheap one!

What’s the most costly mistake you’ve made?
 
I once had a brand-new phone that I accidentally dropped right into a bucket of paint, totally ruined in an instant and definitely not something I could afford to replace
 
40 years in the small engine business I had a few
Two of the most expensive were:
I put the wrong handle screw in a husky saw : rubbed a hole in the crankcase. Thank you JBWeld
I used the wrong tool to install the bearing race in a new 9.9 Johnson outboard lower unit. Drove a hole through it.

Had A few. One which was chainsaw related happened in my teens.
I was delimbing a fallen tree and wasn't watching closely when I cut off a bent laurel bush under tension. real slap in the face and sent my glasses flying.
Lesson learned.
 
Man, some rough stories in here. Especially about getting slapped by a bush. Painful for sure, but you never forget them.

Close call on that that could have been worse. I had an employee doing side work logging with his dad and he cut an oak limb down by his foot under tension under side of the trunk. It snapped with such force it broke his foot clean off above the ankle and was just hanging on by the meat. Kind of a funny story....his dad threw him in the bed of the truck and hammered out of there on a rough logging road. He said at one point his foot flopped over and he was staring at the bottom of his boot :ROFLMAO:. He healed up quick and was back at work in 4 months
 
Whoa, that’s intense! It’s hard to picture dealing with something like that but it’s amazing how fast he got better.
