011 Piston

Hi all, I've got an old 011 that I couldn't get to run any sense, it seemed to have reasonable compression. I did find that the crank seals were leaking a bit, so I'm in the process of replacing them.
Having stripped the saw I noticed some scoring on the piston, you can barely feel it running a fingernail across it.
I've never dealt with scored pistons before, so what does the hive mind think? Is it shot?
I assume if it is then the heads probably toast as well?

Doesn’t look too bad. Rings are free. Clean up the cylinder with fine emery cloth. Replace those seals. Check spark, fuel system. You should be fine. They were a nice little saw.

Ah, good, I was hoping that would be the answer! I was thinking along those lines, but nice to have the second opinion.
I have a 010 that I use reasonably regularly for smaller bits that don't justify getting the bigger saws out and It's a nice saw to use. The 011 looks to be very similar in a lot of ways, so I'm interested to see what differences there actually are.

Remember to work laterally around the circumference of the piston with the emery cloth. That is, rub in a perpendicular direction to the existing scoring. As with any other saw, the carbs are frequent culprits. I picked up a couple of 009s at an auction a couple of years back, and do my best to keep them going. At my age, I much prefer to pick up an 009 instead of the 038!

... My mistake. I meant to say work laterally around the circumference of the cylinder wall. Doesn't hurt to hit the piston a bit, but as Paul said, the cylinder should get most of the cleanup.

Thanks for the help, sadly, after carefulr reassembly I'm still getting no start, it's actually not firing at all now.
Under closer inspection, while I am seeing what appears to be a good spark, it's very inconsistent, previously I've given it a good pull and seen a spark so called it good. Pulling it over multiple times gives very different results though, with the spark often barely visible, so I'm thinking I need to look at a new coil. I tell you, this saw is fighting me every step of the way!
