Hi all,
First time poster here but been tinkering with chainsaws for a while.
So, just stripped my old Dolmar 111 . Sealed everything with new paper gaskets, sealant, etc. Checked cylinder, piston, ring, etc, all looking lovely. Loads of compression but not overly difficult to turn over, saw feels really healthy. Just could'nt get it to start. Checked spark, really strong.
Whilst checking spark, noticed piston was in the wrong position ie not at the end of the compression stroke. Magneto had spun on the crank shaft, obliterating the taper in the flywheel. Flywheel nut was present but not particularly tight.
This is the second time this has happened to me on tbe same saw. How do you folks prevent your magnetos from spinning on the taper? key was present and mostly intact, its the material of the magneto taper which has broken down. Looks like it was just a soft magneto, but has anyone encountered this before?
Cheers.
