Husqvarna 254 ?

Seals and gasket install, vac is good, new carb kit but can't set the carb right. I can get it close but then it idles to low after a while idlind and stalls, l screw is out about 3 1/2 turns which I dislike. my other saw did this too and it was a 262. Any suggestions?

Did you end up getting the 254 dialed in since you posted? If the L screw is out that far and it still stalls at idle, it's likely running lean or the metering lever isn't set quite right. On the HDA 35B carb, the lever should be flush with the carb body but even a slight deviation can throw off fuel delivery. Also, check for air leaks around the intake boot or impulse line, as a vacuum test may not always detect micro leaks under heat. Are you using fresh fuel mix and have you verified the muffler isn't partially blocked?

If you can get it close but it later idles too low and dies, I’d first suspect an air leak around the carb or gasket. On the 254 the gasket that sits between carb and cylinder often slips or bends and causes weird running behavior. Also check your manifold, boot, clamps, crank seals. A little extra air will mess with the idle over warm-up.

Hey, also, give the throttle shaft bushings a quick look. If they're worn out, they might leak air inside, messing with the idle mix, especially after the saw heats up and things start to move around.
