Mac 7-10

I just scored a Mac 7-10. Tore it completely down only to find, much to my disappointment, that the piston and cylinder are scored beyond repair. I am in the market for a replacement cylinder. I know a Pro Mac 700 cylinder will work if I swap out the points. Poor saw was abused, all the fins were totally clogged and it must of been way overheating. Thanks.

Look for a 10-series hybrid top end. Some later PM700 cylinders have improved port timing and cooling fins. Just make sure the bore matches and the gasket surface is good.

Can you give me some examples of a 10-series hybrid. I am not sure what you mean. thanks

Nice find! It’ll need some love, but you’re right, did a bit of research, the Pro Mac 700 cylinder is a direct fit once you swap the points ignition for the electronic version. If you choose that path, be sure to check the crank seals and bearings as well, since overheating can really mess them up. Also, don’t forget to clean or replace the muffler baffle, carbon buildup can definitely contribute to the scoring you saw.
