Surprising finds inside trees

I remember this one time when I was clearing a site, and I accidentally cut into a tree. To my surprise, I found an old, rusted horseshoe hidden deep inside! It totally caught me off guard and got me thinking about what other unexpected treasures people might have stumbled upon.

So, I’m really curious what’s the most surprising thing you’ve ever found inside a tree?

I remember one time at my grandparents’ place, I was chopping firewood and stumbled upon a rusty nail buried deep in the trunk. My grandpa chuckled and said it was probably from when he built a fence ages ago.

There was this one time while camping when I was cutting into a fallen tree and discovered an old glass bottle stuck inside. My friend joked that it must have been a secret stash left by some hiker from way back.

When I was helping to clear land for a new trail, I came across a tree that had completely engulfed part of a chain-link fence. It was wild to see how the tree had just grown around it over the years.

As a 12 year old boy (I'm 65 now) growing up in ohio I found a horseshoe in our country yard. I set it in the crotch of a young maple tree and forgot about it. Many years later I saw it mostly engulfed in the tree. I haven't looked at it in decades being that I've been living in Florida for 45 years. I'm sure it's hidden deep inside a huge maple tree now.

I just hope nobody finds it with a chainsaw! My brother andI still own the property so at least I know which tree it's in.

I worked in a sawmill on a breaking down bench and over the years in pine trees from
around houses that people wanted milled found beer bottles, 22 rifle bullets, plus which
was not nice the body of a singer sowing machine but the most common was seven wire
fences. When you talked to the farmer about it he would say I can remember now when it
was nailed to the tree and when the fence was replaced they would cut the fence off either
side. You new when you hit one you would get these seven sound of the saw hitting it.
So you would always get the saw doctor come running out with a very GRUMPY look
on his face thinking it was my fault for not knowing about it.

Wow, trees really do have a knack for swallowing up everything. I can just picture how annoying it must’ve been to hit old fence wire or random junk and can almost hear all the different sounds it made before the saw doctor came storming in.

Try a brushtail opossum that's an Australian type
felled a hollow poplar and started ringing it up half a possum crawled out

Wow, that's wild there's nothing quite like felling a tree and discovering a brushtail opossum tucked away inside

Most of the stuff I've found with a saw has been a displeasure to the say the least. Several steel T posts left there to stabilize a new planting, concrete used to fill cavities, steel cable, untold numbers of fence wire, nails and rocks. Found a bicycle half engulfed by a tree once. Flying squirrel came out of one one time which was pretty cool considering how rare they are in the Midwest. Dropped a hazard elm tree one time and a racoon came stumbling out of a hollow section. Had his bell rung pretty good. And I'll never forget the big bat that rolled out of hollow lead when the tree hit the ground, my psychotic crew member stuffing it in his lunchbox, taking it home and forgetting it until his wife opened the box. Sounded like a circus after that chasing it around the house.
