I tweaked my Stihl with a muffler mod and carb retune, and the throttle response is way better now. If you're looking for max RPM, porting works great, but keep an eye on the engine temps.

What muffler mods do people make? How is it accomplished and do the carb setting have to be changed?

Most muffler mods typically involve either opening up or adding an exhaust port to enhance airflow. Sometimes, a small deflector is fitted to help direct the exhaust gases. This process usually requires drilling or cutting the outlet and smoothing out any rough edges. Since this adjustment can lean out the fuel mixture, you’ll often need to slightly enrich the carb settings, particularly the high-speed jet, to avoid overheating or engine seizure.

Tale from the shop.
Ms500i. States it shows unburned fuel at muffler and always 4 strokes in the cut. Mods are foam, oiled air filter and a modified muffler. A bought one, not sure who manufactures this one. VERY loud.
Cleaned the sawdust off the air filter. Did nothing else and took it to the log.
I know I have an MS260 pro that would cut circles around it. No bite, no feed.
A sharp chain and clean air filter will cure the issues. Then we will see if the mods make a difference.
Maintenance first, mods second.

Exactly make sure you have a sharp chain and a clean filter first. If you don’t get the basics right the mods won’t really help.
