Funniest non-sawyer chainsaw comment

After years of working with chainsaws, I’ve come across some pretty hilarious comments from folks who have never touched one. From questions like “Is that safe?” to “Do you ride it like a bike?” what’s the funniest thing someone who’s never used a chainsaw has said about your gear?

Last fall, while I was bucking logs, my neighbor came over and asked if I steer it like a lawnmower. I nearly fell over laughing. People who don’t use saws really think of them as toys.

One time, a buddy’s girlfriend asked if my chainsaw had a park mode like a car before I turned it off.
I had to pause my cutting just to explain that one.
It’s wild what people come up with when they’ve never used one.

We’ve all crossed that road at some point in our lives, and most people graciously explain our misunderstanding in a fashion that doesn’t create embarrassment.

The uninformed are usually unwilling to seek answers because they fear being laughed at or ridiculed.

Personally, I see this as a great opportunity to softly educate them and perhaps begin their journey into saws.
