Sharpening chainsaws DIY or pro?

I've been going back and forth on whether I should sharpen my chainsaw myself or leave it to the professionals. Is it really worth the effort to learn, or should I just pay for that perfect edge? What do you all think?

How much do you use it? If you find it only needs sharpening a few times a season, go pro. If it's a day in and day out process every morning for weeks on end, you'll be in the poor house getting it done professionally

I have never paid someone else to sharpen my chains. Sharpening three times in a day is not unusual. And it’s 40 miles to the nearest saw shop.

I use mine a handful of times each season, so I can manage the sharpening myself. Thanks for the advice.

That’s a serious amount of sharpening. I can see why you’d choose to do it yourself, especially with the drive being so far.
