Hi my sthil o34 starts fine but wont idle and after reving it takes a while to drop revs then dies? The saw was running fine one day after the day of cutting wood gave it a good clean then went to use it the next day and won't idle any ideas ple

Are you sure the carb is tweaked properly? My dad did something to the carb messing up the mixture and ended up with a very similar situtaion to yours

Time to check things before condemning the carb.
Is your fuel good-no water?
Is the pulse hose connected? REAL common on an 034 that is 30+ years old.
Is the intake boot good?
Running OK one day and not the next is not going to be carburetor adjustment

Sounds like you cleaned more than you should've, probably gummed up or misadjusted the carb, the rtuth is most fixes like that cause more trouble than wear ever would

First, take a look at the spark. Pull the plug, ground it, and see if you get a strong blue spark. If you don't, try cleaning the flywheel magnets and check the coil gap. If the spark looks good, the next step is to test the compression, low PSI could indicate that the rings are stuck. Also, make sure to check the height of the carb metering lever and the fuel mix ratio. cookie clicker

If the engine has a good spark but won't start, low compression is a likely culprit. This can be caused by stuck rings, worn cylinder walls, or even a blown head gasket.

"I gave it a good clean and now it won't run."
Something came apart.
Not adjustment. That will not change from a cleaning.
Intake boot, pulse hose, fuel hose, fuel.
Not a blown head gasket, don't even know where it is.
Check screw tightness, including cylinder screws.
And please do pull the muffler and look at the piston.

Being an old man and a former Steel Tech for decades I see one thing most people do they find old chainsaws they try to make them run without decarboning the piston fire them up carbon comes loose pins Rings scores the hell out of them not good hope you're not in this boat
