Stihl 361 LA screw trouble after cleaning

Okay, so I cleaned the carb, but now my saw won't even start. Before I did that, the chain was spinning when it was idling. So, like an idiot, I started messing with the LA screw, and now I can't find that sweet spot. Any ideas how to fix it?

Same thing happened to me with my 361 after I cleaned it in my garage. What worked for me is to start the saw, turn the LA screw to the right until the chain starts to move, then turn it back a little. That should fix the idle so the chain stops spinning. Also check the air filter, mine was dirty and made it harder to adjust.

Your issue is probably the initial carb cleaning, not just the screw setting.
Make sure the metering lever height is right and the gaskets or diaphragm are seated perfectly, since a tiny air leak can prevent starting.
To get it to fire, turn the LA screw all the way in, then back it out one full turn.. that's your baseline.
Once it runs and is warm, you can fine-tune the LA by turning it in until the chain just stops, then back it out about 1/4 turn more.
You'll be back to milling in no time!

I completely agree, cleaning the carbs and setting up the metering correctly are crucial. That baseline with the LA screw is definitely reliable.

And why is it only a carburetor issue. Sounds like an air leak from the beginning. NEVER work on a 361 without checking the fuel hose for cracks and that the pulse hose is connected and crack free.
Just saying what I see in the shop on almost every 361 (plus other saws).

I find if you have a Mityvac 8500 or something similar, pull the fuel
filter out of the tank and plug your your vacuum tester in the line.
Pump 5 or 5 pounds of pressure and if it holds at least you will
know everything is good to your needle valve.
